RC2NB Researchers Featured in the Latest DBM Newsletter

The Research Center for Clinical Neuroimmunology and Neuroscience Basel (RC2NB) is proud to see our very own Tobias Derfuss and Jens Kuhle featured in the latest edition of the Department of Biomedicine newsletter.

The cover story highlights one of the most important and still unresolved questions in Multiple Sclerosis research: why does the disease continue to progress even when inflammation appears to be under control?

Through a translational and highly collaborative research approach, RC2NB researchers are working to better understand the biological mechanisms driving disease progression in Multiple Sclerosis and other neuroimmune disorders. The article showcases how clinical expertise, advanced imaging, biomarker discovery, immunology, and longitudinal patient data are being brought together to bridge laboratory findings with real-world patient outcomes.

The piece also highlights ongoing research involving biomarkers such as serum GFAP and neurofilament light chain (sNfL), alongside efforts connected to the Swiss MS Cohort and multimodal imaging studies. These approaches are helping researchers move toward a more integrated understanding of neuroimmune disease progression and precision medicine strategies.

Importantly, the feature reflects the strong collaboration between RC2NB, the University Hospital Basel, and the DBM, where clinicians and basic scientists work side by side to tackle some of the field’s most complex challenges.
